MOJACAR AREA CANCER SUPPORT

What is MACS?
An informal and friendly group of cancer patients and survivors

What does MACS do?
The group meet on a regular basis to talk about, and share information, relating to cancer and cancer related disorders. The members can, in the strictest confidence, openly discuss their individual experiences - past and present. They can talk about their illnesses, treatments and future expectations. MACS also offer one to one support for those people unable to travel.

MACS is a charity and as such, relies on external support/donations. The group is raising much needed funds for research into cancer and, closer to home, for the immediate and future medical requirements of patients eg; providing a professional hospital translator, translations, travel to and from hospitals/medical centres
and group meetings.

MACS is in its infancy, but is already proving invaluable to patients and
their carers. MACS would welcome and appreciate support from any parties willing to help, in order to increase its awareness and to raise funds in Mojacar and the surrounding areas, for the ongoing fight against this terrible disease.

Confused? Worried? Afraid?

MACS is an informal, friendly group of cancer patients and survivors in the Mojácar area, providing support to each other and to others needing help or advice. We have pooled our own experience and can offer:

• Help with interpreting/translation
• Advice on the Spanish medical system
• Moral and emotional support for both patients and carers

MACS is a registered charity working with similar organizations elsewhere in Spain. We can help lighten the load.

A “GOOD” NIGHT OUT

There’s usually a price to pay for a good night out. But “The Maidens” at Mojácar’s Mariela Oasis bar have come up with a concept where everybody wins. Their weekly quiz is held in aid of MACS cancer charity. “It’s just a fun night, said Ann of the Maidens, “it only costs a euro to enter, but it all mounts up and the money goes to a really good cause.”

The Maidens handed over a cheque on Valentine’s night for €332 the proceeds of recent weeks. The quiz is now so popular that people have actually been turned away because no more tables could be fitted in -– obviously the “In” place to be on Thursday nights!
